2011 SAG Awards Jewelry

While pink and blush shades dominated the Golden Globe Award red carpet, the best dresses at the 2011 SAG Awards were much more dramatic: lush red, stark white, and even bold prints! Mila Kunis made a lot of best-dressed lists for her red and white Alexander McQueen: a brilliant mash-up of the top trends of the night.

But let’s get down to the important part of the night: the SAG Awards jewelry.  The focus on this year’s red carpet was on earrings and there were a lot of beautiful, flattering styles.

Tina Fey beautifully finished her strapless red dress with diamond leaf dangles from Lorraine Schwartz.  Julianna Margulies finished off her strapless red dress with Bavna diamond door-knocker hoops.

Rosario Dawson in chrysoprase earrings by Susie Fox and Mariska Hargitay in turquoise earrings by David Webb played bold earring color against a different-color dress.  I love the color-play trend, also seen at the Globes on Lea Michele and Nicole Kidman, and hope it will continue at the Oscars.

Another wonderful trend: Kimberly McDonald jewelry, a beautiful modern collection featuring unusual gems like geodes and slices that we saw at the SAG Awards and at the Golden Globes. Amy Adams and Hilary Swank looked gorgeous in Kimberly McDonald designs last night. I adore everything Lorraine Schwartz as much as the next jewelry-loving gal but it’s nice to see another modern choice in the spotlight along with the old-school and vintage blue chip brands like Tiffany, Chopard, Cartier, Fred Leighton, and Neil Lane.

With all the white, red, and black dresses, there were also a lot of black diamond earrings on the red carpet. Winona Ryder had black drop earrings and Christina Hendricks wore pear-shaped Sutra drop earrings with what appear to be black diamonds.  But my attention was drawn to the black diamond stud earrings January Jones wore.  Why have I never realized how wearable black diamond studs would be with everything in my closet?  And they look great with blonde hair.

Pear-shaped drop earrings and drop studs continue to be important and what a wonderful wearable silhouette that works far beyond the red carpet.  Jenna Fisher had nice diamond drop earrings from Adeler that I would wear to my office.  Natalie Portman had the best drops of the evening: more than 27-carats of fancy yellow diamonds from Tiffany valued at $2 million. Although bodyguards would be required to wear these around town, try pear-shaped citrine drop earrings and you’ve got that million-dollar look for much, much less.
